Raising suspicions in New Haven that he may be a closet Harvard fan, first-year Yale head coach Tom Williams channeled his inner-Bill Bellichek and made the inexplicable decision to fake a punt deep in his own territory on fourth down despite needing TWENTY-TWO yards to get the first down and the fact that he WAS BEATING Harvard at the time. Well you know the rest. Harvard pulls out a late win. Oh well. Bad day for the Bulldogs.
But…it was a great day for me! Much like the 50,000 or so of my older counterparts who never made it into the Yale Bowl, I enjoyed my time outside of the stadium more than my time in the stands. We stayed for two quarters and I loved what I saw (especially the passing and kicking plays, running plays are boring) but the hours I spent outside were amazing!
I noticed that most of the other people needed grilled burgers, cases of beer and a funnel for their good time outside, but me, I needed my newly-purchased Yale football, acres of grass, and a spectacular fall New England afternoon to have an unforgettable day!
